Germany officially banned so-called "Daesh" [ISIL] from any activities in the country
on Friday, becoming only the second European nation to do so.

Germany Outlaws Activities in Support of ’Daesh’The ban however is one step away from classifying Daesh as a terrorist group--a decision that can only be made by a court of law.

At a press conference on Friday, German Defence minister Thomas de Mazière announced the ban on flying Daesh flags, wearing Daesh symbols and all Daesh activities.

"The terror organization ISIL is a threat to public safety in Germany..." de Mazière said.

The move will also ban making donations to the extremist group, meetings and propaganda being distributed.
Daesh assets in Germany are also to be confiscated and the authorities examine whether to prosecute the extremist group's supporters in the country.

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the internal intelligence agency, in its 2013 report published in June, said it had no information about Daesh structures or members in Germany.
However, in a radio interview recently two weeks ago, the agency's president, Hans-Georg Maassen, put at 400 the number of German nationals and residents who had joined Daesh in Syria and Iraq.
