Nationwide anti-government protests continued throughout Yemen as demonstrators took part in rallies on Wednesday, just a day after an identical protest ended in bloodshed by government troops in the nation's capital of Sana'a.

Nationwide Anti-Gov’t Protests Continue Across YemenYemenis organized an anti-government protest across the country on Wednesday.

The action comes a day after
Yemeni government troops opened fire on demonstrators as they were marching towards the office of Yemeni Prime Minister Mohammed Basindawain in the capital of Sana'a.
At least seven people were martyred and 100 more injured.

The protesters accuse the government of rampant corruption and mishandling the economy.

They also called on Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and his government to step down.

Since August 20, Houthi activists have been holding daily protests in Sana'a with tens of thousands taking part.

The Houthi movement played a key role in the popular revolution that forced former Yemeni dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down. Saleh, who ruled Yemen for 33 years, stepped down in February 2012 under a US-backed power transfer deal in return for immunity, after a year of mass street demonstrations demanding his ouster.
