As "Israel" suffers the bitterness of its defeat in Gaza, the dailies continued to slam the political leadership's failing strategy during the latest aggression in Gaza.

’Israel’ Suffers Bitterness of Gaza Defeat, Governed by Political Paralysis

Ynet: We're Frustrated

Under the tile, "Making a weakened "Israel" into a political powerhouse", "Israeli" Ynet daily wrote: "The ceasefire with Hamas has left the "Israeli" public frustrated."

"Even now Hamas has the power to threaten our "communities" all the way up to the outskirts of Haifa. The "Israeli" public, which bore the burden and granted large license to the political and military echelons, expected a different ending."
In its opinion piece, the daily further confirmed: "What we got was disappointing and leaves what some may even call a sour taste in the mouth."

"In the coming days we will probably all be subject to a massive campaign. We will hear explanations that the "IDF" dealt a fatal blow to Hamas; they will try to convince us of miracles and wonders and that - in the words of "Defense" Minister Ya'alon - "we seared the consciousness" of Hamas. According to this logic, Hamas will be too scared to enter into any future entanglements with the "IDF", given the brutal punishment we just meted out."

Moreover, Ynet added: "Regrettably, the lack of a firm victory in "Operation Protective Edge" has seared the image of "Israeli" weakness into the minds of the leaders of ...groups in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. In their eyes, the "Jewish state", with the strongest army and the most sophisticated equipment in the Middle East, was unable for more than 50 days defeat a "terrorist" organization that controls the a limited territory."

"The tragedy of "Israel" is embodied by its current government, which cannot take advantage of the opportunity and rise to the challenge. Under this government, we can only prepare for the next round of violence against Hamas. The lack of courage on the part of the leadership to set far-reaching goals other than a military campaign against Hamas becomes a lack of courage to start a political process to break the stalemate in the diplomatic arena."

In conclusion it highlighted that ""Israel" today is led by a flaccid leadership and a coalition that dictates political paralysis."

Times of "Israel": Will Bibi Survive?

For its part, the Times of "Israel" wondered if "Netanyahu's coalition survive the blowback from what many "Israelis" see as an ambiguous and incomplete outcome to the Gaza war?"

According to the daily, "There are two political dangers ahead for Netanyahu's government: the immediate fallout from dissatisfaction over the end of the Gaza fighting, and the looming crisis of the budget debate set to begin in mid-September."

"Those who may be considering leaving the coalition and forcing new elections - Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman chief among them - are carefully watching the postwar mood this week for signs that Netanyahu is weakening. In 2006, the immediate public backlash against then-premier Ehud Olmert, in the wake of the Second Lebanon War's ambiguous conclusion, sent him into a downward spiral from which he never recovered."

It further mentioned: "Netanyahu's opponents on the right, who in recent days have ridden a wave of public dissatisfaction with his conduct of the war, will watch for a similar plunge in Netanyahu's case - in polls, in media criticism, in the public mood writ large. They are unlikely to topple their own coalition as long as Netanyahu does not appear mortally threatened."

Netanyahu's second major political threat comes in mid-September, when Finance Minister Yair Lapid is slated to present the 2015 budget to the government for a vote. If it passes in the cabinet, it is likely to pass easily in the Knesset, but the cabinet fight looks set to be a bruising one.
