Reports mentioned that the so-called "Islamic State" militants have kidnapped up to 3,000 women and girls belonging to Yazidi minority sect in northern Iraq.

’IS’ Militants Kidnap 3,000 Women, Girls in IraqHundreds of Yazidi men were also reportedly killed by the "IS" militants after they refused to convert.

The massacre and mass kidnappings appear to have taken place in villages where residents took up arms against the "Islamic State" militants during the past two weeks.

The abducted women and girls are kept in Tal Afar, east of Mount Sinjar which is under the control of the "IS" terrorists, with reports suggesting that the victims are being forced into marriage or sold as slaves.

According to Amnesty International, babies were also among those kidnapped by the militants who overrun the villages during their offensive.

Donatella Rovera, Amnesty International's senior crisis response adviser, said: "The victims are of all ages, from babies to elderly men and women."

"It seems they took away entire families, all those who did not manage to flee. We fear the men may have been executed," Rovera said.
Some 200,000 people escaped to safety in Iraq's Kurdish region, but others remain on the mountain.

The militants have also executed nearly 700 members of the al-Sheeitat tribe in eastern Syria, according a monitoring group.
