The Yemeni military said most of the attackers who responsible for the brazen attack on the Defense Ministry complex on Thursday were Saudi nationals.
The military's chief of the general staff said in a preliminary report submitted to Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi on Friday that there were about 12 attackers participating in the assault.

The committee led by Yemen's Chief of Staff Gen. Ahmed al-Ashwal in its report on Friday set the death toll at 56, with another 215 wounded.

"The terrorists were estimated at 12 and most of them were Saudi nationals. The (investigation) committee is still working on acquiring more information about the terrorists and their goals," the report said.

Also, according to the report, the 12, who were all killed, executed the attack as a two-stage operation, in which the attackers disguised in military uniform drove a car packed with explosives into the complex, blew it up, then split into two groups. One swept through a military hospital while the second group attacked a laboratory. Both killed everyone they found.

Medics from Germany, Vietnam, India, and the Philippines among the dead, said the source.

Meanwhile, a militant group affiliated to al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attack. Yemeni security forces frequently come under attack by gunmen especially in the southern and eastern parts of the country.
