Syrian President Bashar al-Assad confirmed that he does not regret the destruction of the chemical weapons.

Al-Assad: Geneva 2 might Not Be Held, Hamas Betrayed Us, KSA The State of TribesHe further revealed that Syria ended the production of such arms in 1997 and replaced them with traditional weapons that are a crucial factor in the battles on the ground.

According to al-Akhbar Lebanese daily, al-Assad said that the armament structure of the Syrian army is based on rockets. "It is sufficient to hit the airports in "Israel" to paralyze it," he viewed.
However, he highlighted that eliminating the chemical arsenal has a moral impact. "The chemical arsenal has no military effect anymore. The chemical weapon has a moral effect. We believe that the greater the tension is, the more "Israel" distributes masks to its frightened people."
"However, when those weapons are used, their effects can be treated easily," Al-Assad stressed.

On the political level, the head of the Syrian state pointed out that Geneva 2 conference might not take place.
He also reiterated that Damascus is ready to take part in the meeting as long as the conference takes into consideration its demands based on holding elections and halting support for terrorists.
"The problem of the West is that the group they support is disjointed, and has no control on the ground," al-Asssad clarified.

In this context, he mentioned that the so-called Free Syrian Army reached its end. "The FSA elements left its ranks either to join the so-called Islamic groups, or the State, where some of them returned and are now fighting in the ranks of the Syrian Army."
"The forces that the West and the Gulf supported are now formed only of terrorists, who have no place in Geneva 2," he declared.

On the other hand, president al-Assad denied reports published by media saying that the member of Fatah Movement's central committee Abbas Zaki has delivered to him a letter from Qatar's new Emir.
On another note, the Syrian president said that the Russians' actions and positions show that Russia seeks to defend itself, not the Syrian regime and people, stressing that Syria's security and stability are protected by politics, not by the military arsenal.
"With what they are doing, the Russians are not defending Syria, its people, its regime or its president; they are defending themselves. Syria's stability and security is protected by politics more than it is by a military arsenal," he said.

The Syrian president also slammed Hamas and accused it of abandoning the resistance.
"Hamas decided to abandon the resistance and become a part of the Muslim Brotherhood. This is not the first time they betrayed us, they did it before in 2007 and 2009," al-Assad said."

Saying Hamas has "a history of treachery and treason," Assad added that he hopes someone will persuade the Islamist group to return as a resistance movement.

"But I doubt it," Assad continued. "Hamas has stood against Syria since day one" of the uprising which erupted in March 2011.

As he hailed Iraq's stance from the Syrian crisis, al-Assad emphasized that the relation with Saudi Arabia is still characterized with estrangement and hostility. "In the end, KSA is only a state of tribes and individuals," the Syrian President said, noting that "KSA's relations are based on individualism."

"When one of these [officials] opposes us, all Saudi Arabia becomes hostile to us.. When you are in a good relationship with their master, they are all good to you," al-Assad stated.
