Bulgaria: Hizbullah’s Role in Burgas Bombing Unproven
Local Editor
Bulgaria on Wednesday stated it only had an "indication" not solid proof that Hizbullah was behind the Burgas bus bombing in July, which does not justify any European Union move to list it as a terrorist group.
The new Bulgarian government backed away from charges that Hizbullah had allegedly carried out an attack on a bus containing tourists in Burgas.
"It is important that the [EU] decision be based not only on the bombing in Burgas because I think the evidence we have is not explicit," Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin, whose government took office last week, told national state radio BNR.
Such allegations are strongly denied by Hizbullah, since it is a resistance that defends itself against "Israeli" aggression and does not carry out terrorist attacks.
Some diplomats have said that enlisting Hizbullah on the EU's terrorist list would complicate the EU's contacts with Lebanon, since it is a significant part of the government.
