North Korea fired another short-range missile into the Sea of Japan on Monday, the fifth in three days, and was confirmed by a spokesman for the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"We are still checking on the precise nature of these tests," the spokesman remarked.

On Sunday, United Nation Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon voiced his concern about provocations and tensions on the Korean Peninsula following short-ranged missiles being launched off its east coast by North Korea on Saturday, then Sunday, and today on Monday.

On this note, Ban's spokesperson stated on Sunday that the Secretary-General remains concerned about provocations and tensions on the Korean Peninsula, "particularly given the risks of miscalculation and dangerous escalation."

Following North Korea's third nuclear test, the Security Council tightened sanctions on the country's trade and banking, as well as travel by targeted officials.
However, South Korea confirmed on Sunday its deployment of dozens of "Israeli" Spike missiles and their mobile launchers on its western border islands.
