Russia's Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov stressed Saturday that "the imposition of one's political and socio-economic standards on other countries may serve to strengthen extremist forces."

Lavrov Concerned for ME Christians’ Fate: Imposing Foreign Standards to Strengthen Extremism During a meeting of the Foreign and Defense Policy Council in Moscow, Lavrov highlighted that "this backfires more often than not and may serve to strengthen the extremist and repressive forces, while pushing back prospects for a truly democratic change."
"It's not a question of Russia's countering western influence, but, rather, the realization that the policy of advancing democracy by "sword and blood" methods doesn't work," he confirmed.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the danger of this kind of "forced democracy implanting is that it wreaks chaos and may result in a global crisis of governance."
"We know what consequences foreign armed interference not sanctioned by the U.N. Security Council in affairs of other states leads to," Lavrov added.
Earlier, the Russian top diplomat attended the meeting of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society's Board which took place at the Society's headquarters in Moscow.

Addressing the meeting, Lavrov expressed concern over the possibility for "the Arab Springs" in some states to result in being overtaken by extremist groupings who would allow of discrimination against particular ethnic confessional groups.
"In the first place, we are certainly concerned for the fate of Christians," he said.
