The following are the Islamic-Resistance operations that took place during the month of February in 1997...

Islamic Resistance Performs 53 Operations in February, 1997

This February, the resistance squadrons performed 62 military operations against the sites, patrols, and troops of the "Israeli" enemy and the Lahd militiamen. The Islamic Resistance performed 53 of these operations.
The operations resulted in two enemy fatalities; one of them was the fatality of an officer in charge of a Merkava tank.
As well, the operation resulted in wounding nine enemy soldiers and a Lahd militiaman, the enemy has acknowledged.

On the other hand, five Islamic-Resistance fighters were martyred.
Among the most significant events this month was the crash of two "Israeli" war helicopters on the borders with Palestine. The helicopters had been transporting 73 Zionist officers including sergeants to the Lebanese territories.
It was then discovered that some of the officers were in civil dress. Quite obviously, the officers had been on a mission against Hizbullah.

Helicopter Crash Kills Seventy-Three "Israeli" Soldiers, February 4, 1997

Seventy-three of "the Paratroopers Brigade" (Hebrew name: "Hativat Hat Zanhanim"; an "Israeli" elite unit) were killed in a two-helicopter crash.
The helicopters had been on their way to Lebanon to assail the Lebanese civilians and perform operations against Hizbullah officers.

Some news agencies reported upon the statement of eye witnesses that two "Sicorsky H-53"* helicopters had an enormous crash. Both helicopters then fell over a settlement in occupied eastern al-Jalil (Galilee) in the north of Palestine.
Different news has been reported on the helicopters' mission. Head of "the Northern Command" Amiram Levin said the helicopters loaded with explosives had been on their way to Lebanon.

Other Zionist militants said that the helicopters were carrying out a customary soldier-exchange operation. Yet other sources pointed out that apparently the deceased soldiers had been on their way to carry out an aggression.
The enemy's channel reported: "...One of the helicopters turned its lights on; whereas the other turned its lights off since the procedures for the helicopters required that the lights be turned off before they infiltrated into the Lebanese territories in order to avoid being monitored or attacked by the Resistance."

The Zionist senior officers, on top of who was the "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, expressed their pain and declared a mourning day.
Analyzing the accident, some "Israeli" newspapers mentioned that the "Israeli" military had recently been depending more on helicopters to transport the "Israeli" soldiers to and from south of Lebanon so as to avoid the soldiers' exposure to the Resistance's ambuscades and land mines.

"Israel" was paying a very expensive price for its presence in Lebanon, the newspapers considered.

On the other hand, a source of the Islamic-Resistance command declared that all clues confirmed that the enemy had plotted to carry out an aggression. Here below were the most important clues:

●The Resistance had information concerning Zionist preparations to perform a military coup within 72 hours in concurrence with "al-Quds (Jerusalem) International Day" and "al-Fitr Id" ("the Lesser Bairam").
●In case of performing missions like transporting officers and soldiers in unstable climatic conditions, the enemy resorted to one of these means:

1. The enemy would move directly from Palestine to the operation zone.
2. The enemy would move from Palestine to the occupied Lebanese borderline, where the enemy troops would wait until all intelligential information was complete. Then, the enemy would modify the proposed plan. Afterwards, the enemy would move from the occupied borderline to the operation zone whether the mission to be performed required ground forces or air forces.

●The number of the soldiers and officers was big (73). It was as well reported that some of them were dressed in civil dress; this confirmed that they were going to perform an operation.

Resistance Operations Mark al-Quds International Day, February 4, 1997

Marking al-Quds (Jerusalem) International Day, which is celebrated on the last Friday of every Holy month of Ramadan, the Islamic-Resistance fighters performed 26 military operations against Zionist-Lahd sites and patrols.
The operations, starting in an-Nakoura and ending in the outskirts of West Beqaa, were performed nearly at the same time.
By now, some militants had begun calling for "Israel's" withdrawal from Lebanon. Among those calls was that of Head of the Labor-Party Bloc of the Zionist Knesset Yusuf Beilin ("Yossi" Beilin).

Another call was that of the "Israeli" Interior Security Minister, Brigadier General Avigdor Kahalani, who said, "We can no longer let our soldiers get killed in Lebanon just like birds! We must do something!"
Kahalani suggested "a mean to prevent the killing of more "Israeli" soldiers: escalating the aggression against Lebanon and "demolishing the electric power plants in return for every "Israeli" soldier killed, roads in return for every two killed, and bridges for every three killed."

Unique Operation Blat, February 9, 1997

The Islamic Resistance drew an "Israeli" force of "the Egoz Unit" to an ambuscade. Then a group of fighters, positioned a few meters from the ambuscade spot, struck the counter force as another Islamic-Resistance group clashed with an "Israeli" force that was attempting to back the ambuscaded force.
An hour after the confrontations, the occupation forces sent helicopters to evacuate the casualties.

The enemy declared that seven "Israelis" were injured, whereas the Resistance sources declared that each of eight soldiers was killed or injured.
As well, some Islamic-Resistance sources declared that Blat, the operation zone, had been a main coordination center for the "Israeli" forces.
The sources added that the fighters had previously attacked garrison of the "Israeli" site. The sources also pointed out that the fighters ambushed around twelve soldiers and the officer in charge of them.

As four other groups approached the ambuscaded force, trying to back it, the fighters machine-gunned them. The soldiers were heard crying and screaming, the Islamic-Resistance sources added.
Hizbullah Secretary General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah received the fighters who performed the unique "Operation Blat". His Eminence congratulated them for their courage and apt performance of their jihad duty, offering each of them a copy of the Holy Quran.

The operation, in fact, shocked the "Israeli" media. The "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the occupied Lebanese region and the north of occupied Palestine. Netanyahu as well visited Nahariya Hospital to check on six of the injured Zionist soldiers.

Operation ad-Dabsheh, February 27, 1997

The Islamic Resistance performed an operation series near ad-Dabsheh Site. The operation series began as one of the Islamic-Resistance groups attacked a Zionist lurking force and besieged it.
Again, the Islamic-Resistance group attacked the Zionist force that was unable to withdraw from the place. Now the "Israeli" enemy sent a Merkava tank to the combat field, so another Islamic-Resistance group launched a guided missile against the tank, hitting it at once.
In the meantime, other Islamic-Resistance groups were bombarding the sites of ad-Dabsheh, at-Tohra, Ali at-Taher, and al-Ahmadieh so as to prevent them from backing the targeted force.

The enemy acknowledged the death of the officer in charge of the Merkava tank and a soldier, as well as the injury of two other soldiers.
Besides, the enemy acknowledged that the confrontation with the Islamic-Resistance fighters had been ferocious.
The military correspondent of the enemy's "Channel 1" reported, "Several groups of Hizbullah fighters headed to the site they had been holding under control and posted their flag on one of the cannonade emplacements.
Trying to confront them, the soldiers on the tank did not realize there were other groups of Hizbullah fighters, who launched an anti-shield missile and hit the tank."

The report added, "Sergeant Letor Tenai, who was in charge of the tank's telecommunications, was killed at once. As for the officer in charge of the tank, he suffered a critical injury and died soon. Helicopters then transported the wounded soldiers."
The report also mentioned, "The sergeant and the other officer were shot in the head, which indicated one of these choices: Either the missile had penetrated the tank, or the casualties had been exposed through the tank turret."

Other Zionist military sources reported, "The tank was hit with a developed "Sagger" missile (a guided, anti-tank missile) used by Hizbullah."

Five Islamic-Resistance Fighters Martyred in February, 1997

Five Islamic-Resistance fighters were martyred in February, 1997:
-Martyr Hussein Muhammad Bashir was martyred while confronting the enemy forces in Beit Yahoun and Braachit on the 26th of February, 1997.

As for the other martyrs, they were all martyred in ad-Dabsheh confrontation on the 27th of February, 1997:
-Martyr Muhammad Abdul Amir Hameed
