Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei says the Islamic Republic will support a united and stable Iraq, reiterating the significance of reconstructing the war-torn country at the earliest possible time.

In a meeting with visiting President of Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Massoud Barzani in Tehran on Sunday, Imam Khamenei also lauded Iraq's current independence.

The unanimous resistance of all Iraqi tribes and religious groups against US pressure, opposition to judicial immunity for the occupying military forces and the ultimate compulsion for the US to withdraw from Iraq are a golden page in the history of Iraq, he said.

Despite the US military and political presence in Iraq and its pressure, all the Iraqi people, including Kurds, Arabs and Shia and Sunni Muslims, said "no" to the US, said the Imam, adding that this is a "very important" issue.
Imam Khamenei pointed to the peaceful coexistence of various tribes and sects in Iraq and said the ongoing situation of stability in that country is a source of delight for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Leader urged all Iraqi tribes and sects to unite and make efforts to reconstruct the new Iraq in a way that will help the country succeed in gaining its real position.
The Imam said that the Iranian and Iraqi nations enjoy deep-rooted relations and added that Tehran and Baghdad have "good" ties at present but the relations should be further improved.

For his part, Barzani said Iran is a "very close" friend of Iraq and lauded the support of the Iranian government and nation for Iraq during hard times.
He added that Iraq definitely needs Iran's aid and advice.
