May 15 marks the Nakba (cataclysm) day, the day that saw the mass deportation of million Palestinians from their homes, civilians were massacred and villages were destroyed.
To commemorate the anniversary of Nakba Day, the 194 Campaign held a celebration at the Sports Stadium in Beirut, of where a world record for the Longest chain of Keffiyehs was made.
Lebanese and Palestinian officials and representatives from many local and International organizations were present to support the activity and celebrate the anniversary of Nakba Day.
As Guinness's World Record representative Jack Brockbank was busy measuring the length of the 6,500 scarves connected in the shape of the UN Resolution 194, people outside the stadium were awaiting the result on pins and nails.
An exhibit was set for Palestinian artisans and crafts that told a lot about the history of a country that has always known resistance. People rushed to buy those mavens in support of the Palestinians.
An Art band presented folkloric songs with lyrics that blew out the rage in people's hearts like a volcano. Children, women and men were all enthusiastic, waving with the Palestinian flags with pride while screaming out, "WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO RETURN TO OUR COUNTRY".
Children dressed in folkloric dances were ready to entertain their audience with a heritage dance. Every innocent step they took showed how much love they held to a country they never saw yet always feel and hear about.
It was getting hotter and hotter, and people were melting but they were never to leave without knowing the result of their efforts. After 3 hours of measuring, Jack came out of the field with the results in his hand.
"I kept counting for more than 3 hours and found 6500 Keffiyehs, but we usually the number of Keffiyehs doesn't count, what counts is the length", Brockbank said as the audience were about to faint. He continued, "Spain was able to make a length of 5000 m, yet you were able able to reach a number 0f 6552 m 59 c, giving you the credibility of entering the Guinness World Records", he said.
"I arrived to Lebanon yesterday and I immediately came to the stadium and I admired the team work and organization", he added.
Jack handed in a certificate to the 194 campaign organizers and as if it was the key to the liberation of Palestine, the crowd hailed, screamed, and jumped with extreme happiness.
As many were celebrating the event, two old men were busy recalling their days in Palestine as they looked at a Map of Palestine 1948. In their eyes they had hopes of returning to their land along with the 7 million of the 11 Palestinians around the world.
