Final Victory against Daesh Is Imminent, Iraqi PM Tells US VP

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced on Friday that a victory against Daesh [the Arabic acronym for the Takfiri ‘ISIS/ISIL' group] in Mosul is imminent, during a phone call with US Vice President Mike Pence.
The Iraqi PM's office issued a statement saying that during the phone call both sides discussed the ongoing Mosul battle, anti-Daesh coalition efforts in Iraq and the current situation in the country.
For his part, Pence reiterated his country's support to Iraq in the fight against Daesh, stressing that America's policy in the region has not changed.
Al-Abadi said that focusing on the defeat of Daesh is of immense importance as Iraqi forces are "approaching the final victory" in Mosul.
As for Syria, al-Abadi said that there is a need to develop a comprehensive plan to end the ongoing escalation in the country.
