Iranian House Speaker Ali Larijani said that the US-led international coalition "ISIL" is nothing more than a false pretence.
"Confronting terrorist groups is only possible through the contribution and resistance of nations," he said.
Larijani is currently in Syria on a one-day official visit, which is the first leg of his regional tour.
"Syria is paying price for steadfastness and resistance in face of the Zionist entity," he stressed.
In parallel, the Iranian top official highlighted: "The latest developments show that the main goal of the countries that support the terrorists is nothing but to gain control over the region and drive Syria out of the resistance axis."
"The Iranian government supports a democratic political resolution to stop the terrorist killings in Syria," he said.
During his stay in Damascus, the Iranian official held separate meetings with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Parliament Speaker Mohammed Jihad al-Laham.
Criticizing certain parties which are seeking to decide for future of Syria, the Iranian Speaker said: "Of course, their efforts have proved futile and the main issue is that the Syrians take decisions for themselves."
On Russia's plan for inter-Syrian talks, Larijani viewed that Moscow is seeking a serious dialogue involving representatives of both the government and opposition.
The expansion of bilateral ties and the latest developments in Syria were on top of the agenda of the talks.
Larijani is also scheduled to visit Lebanon and Iraq.
